shaved ice

My favorite Taiwanese snack is “shaved ice”. I get it at Coco’s Cafe, in Austin.
They put some shaved ice in the bottom of a big cup/bowl and then you get to add 4 ingredients. They have several choices, puddings/custards, jelly, sweet beans, fruit, mochi, and pearls. My favorites are mochi (rice balls), pearls, and 2 scoops of taro. Then they put in more shaved ice and top it with condensed milk and syrup.
A very different concoction, but I think it is wonderful!

biting the wrong hand

sometimes Hunter has too much going on while eating and trys to eat from the wrong hand… such as: the other day at Chili’s he was eating a french fry in one hand and coloring with a crayon in the other and talking to me all at the same time, subsequently he bit the crayon and had the weirdest look on his face! then today we were at The Salt Lick and he was eating brisket in one hand and playing with a hot wheels car in the other and talking again, and ended up biting the car!

happiness

HAPPINESS IS A JOURNEY
by Alfred D. Souza

For a long time it seemed to me that life was about to begin – real life. But there was always some obstacle in the way, something to be gotten through first, some unfinished business, time to still be served, a debt to be paid. Then life would begin. At last it dawned on me that these obstacles were my life.

This perspective has helped me to see that there is no way to happiness. Happiness is the way. So, treasure every moment that you have. And treasure it more because you shared it with someone special, special enough to spend your time, and remember that time waits for no one.

So stop waiting…

until you finish school, until you go back to school, until you lose ten pounds, until you gain ten pounds, until you have kids, until your kids leave the house, until you start work, until you retire, until you get married, until you get divorced, until Friday night, until Sunday morning, until you get a new car or home, until your car or home is paid off, until spring, until summer, until fall, until winter, until you are off welfare, until the first or fifteenth, until your song comes on, until you’ve had a drink, until you’ve sobered up, until you die, until you are born again, to decide that there is no better time than right now to be happy.

Happiness is a journey, not a destination.

treo

how exciting! i just got a new toy, a PalmOne Treo 650. it’s a CDMA dual-band digital phone, a PDA running Palm OS 5.4 with 23M & a Intel PXA270 proc @ 321MHz, has a 320×320 TFT screen displaying 16bit color, accepts SD/SDIO/MMC cards, plays MP3’s, has a VGA camera with 2X zoom that can also capture video, has a full QWERTY keyboard & num pad, has speakerphone functionality, wireless email, wireless web, text & picture messaging, gpsOne support, 5 hr TT/2 weeks SB, stereo out, and infrared & bluetooth connectivity, all in a 4.4 x 2.3 x 0.9 in / 6.3 oz package!
now i just need to sync up all my old info from my handspring, which by the way, was running what I call the “beta” version of the treo (beta because of firmware issues that weren’t resolved after RTS, because of dropped support). it was a Visor with the Sprint Digital DataLink Module. i also need to go get a 1G SD card & a bluetooth headset.
one of my next projects is setup the treo to connect to my home VPN and use PalmVNC, which is open SRC for those who care about that ;)

spicy

my favorite mexican restraunts are:

  • Cotton’s in my hometown of Bryson, TX. They have great salsa and the best chili relleno’s I have ever had.
  • Ta Mollys Y Mas in San Marcos, TX. They have great salsa as well (that’s what I usually use as a barometer of restraunt quality) and they have the best migas that I have ever had.
  • Taiwan

I’m currently working on a project with our Development Center in Taiwan. So far it has been a great opportunity to learn and interact in a working relationship with a different culture. One advantage of working for a global company :)
