frogs & rain

We finally had some storms this weekend. Lots of thunder, lightning and rain. There have not been many storms this spring. Maybe the summer will bring more to watch. Last night we had several frogs in the front yard, playing in the puddles. And they treated us to an all-night opera that was quite nice to listen to :)

popups

when i loaded my webpage this morning, it appeared to try to load a pop-up. after further investigation, i find that my registrar’s (registry-rocket) domain service company (eNom) is adding redirector services to their DNS for URL redirection that is causing popups! so I have kindly asked them to cut it out. i apologize for any inconvience they have caused…

SwarmBot

“The iRobot Swarm project represents the state of the art in algorithms, hardware, and user interfaces for large swarms of autonomous robots.”

Reminds me of Michael Crichton’s “Prey” and Neal Stephenson’s “The Diamond Age”.

HYI airshow 2005

We went to the Commemorative Air Force Airshow in San Marcos this weekend. HYI AWOS was reporting 97 degrees, add 10 to that to compensate for the reflection off the concrete and it was HOT. But there were several nice planes out. There was a B-17 Flying Fortress (Thunderbird) from the Lone Star Flight Museum in Galveston. Can you imagine hundreds of them covering the sky in Europe? Amazing! Also a B-25 PBJ (Devil Dog) from Georgetown. And of course the B-25 Mitchell (Yellow Rose), that I am lucky enough to have shared the pattern with on several occasions. I loved the bombers, but the fighters were pretty cool too. There were several there: King Cobra, Warhawk, Aerocobra, Spitfire, and Zeros (from the Tora Squardron, which was in the movie “Tora, Tora, Tora”; I also get to fly with these in the pattern from time to time). My favorites were the TBM Avenger and the Curtiss SB2C-5 Helldiver. It is the only Helldiver still flying in the world. And of course they had the trainers, including the Texans. Hunter enjoyed the recreations. This year they recreated the attack on Pearl Harbor, fight of Midway, bombing raids on Europe, and the Doolittle Raid. Lots of explosions and authentic aircraft, really allows you to see and hear history.

night ride

I finally unpacked the bike and went for a night ride through the new neighborhood tonight. The lack of light pollution and silence was so pleasant. Only the crickets chirping for me as I rode by. And the sweet smell of the early night air, as it begins to cool from the hot Texas day. The moon bright and the stars beautiful, even the sky snake (hydra) was out watching over me. Jupiter and Saturn were high above, with airplanes below making their final turns for SAT. Such a peaceful ride. Which allowed me to spend some time with the one that I am left with at the end of the day…

shocking

i got shocked this evening at work. that hasn’t happened in a long time. wasn’t much fun, my arm is still painful and shakey.
