I have not had many chiggers since we moved to the Austin area about 5 years ago, but still get them so bad when we go back home to visit in the summer…
Hunter had his first encounter with them this weekend.
They are an amazing little creature. So small, yet able to inflict such torment on us

I’ve never met a chigger. Sounds nasty, and similar to a mainframes, which while large, is also able inflict such torment.
Here is a nice little link that tells you all about chiggers and how they like to do what they do.
“Chigger larvae do not burrow into the skin, nor suck blood. They pierce the skin and inject into the host a salivary secretion containing powerful, digestive enzymes that break down skin cells that are ingested (tissues become liquefied and sucked up).”
