funny OCR

I was scanning my “State of Texas” drivers license with a program that automaticaly performs an OCR on all scans…  So when I went to save the pic, it showed the default title as “pestsex.tif”.  I thought wth where did that come from..  so i looked it up to see if it was some sort of virus-like issue, makes you wonder doesn’t it?  So I scanned it again and the file name was different.  As it turns out, the OCR engine was reading “state of texas” as “pestsex”!

kxan

So, yet another “service discontinuation”…  It seems that Time Warner and KXAN are having problems and the result is that I can no longer watch any NBC shows.  I have rabbit ears on a tv upstairs, but it doesn’t work too well.  So I am missing Chuck, Days of Our Lives, My Name is Earl, The Office, and Saturday Night Live.  I only like to watch a few shows and that is most of them.  Now I have to watch them online or try to use the other tv.

This is an interesting statement from KXAN:

“Here is a basic analogy: If you were to get a drink of water at a public drinking fountain, it is free, but once the water is placed in a package, it is no longer free. The same holds true for local television programming delivered through a subscription-based provider.”

sooo… aren’t we paying the provider of the “package”?  Oh well, same ole arguments about who owns the RF after it leaves the station… just like back in the day of cable descramblers, “who owns the signal after my VCR retransmits it?”, etc.

T-Ball

Hunter has started t-ball.  And I’m an assistant coach (although he tells me that I’m not his coach when we are at home, ha).  He really likes baseball, but he had to sacrifice playing soccer this time since the schedules conflicted.  He wants to play football next and then hockey.  Ha, not sure about the hockey, but there is an ice skating rink in Austin, so I’ll check on it.  Other than sports he’s doing great in kindergarten and just loves it.  And the teacher is going to recommend him for the gifted & talented program for next year!

Oh, and his favorite position so far is “badger” – HA – that’s what he first called “catcher”, so that’s my new name for it :)
