hmmmm... maybe it is just me, but I am trying to find out the relationship between the poem and the currnet comments. Are we to read the poem and take it for face value or read into it and look for a source?
By reading it and taking it as is, it could be one person to another simply conveying thoughts and desires. They could be reliving thoughts of past times or times to be. No pain, only wanting...
But, if i think about it, I could see it as one person looking for something, anything... but not finding anything. AH HA! Maybe what we should see is a lack of reciprocation of thoughts and desires. But there are none. This is where the pain comes in. The lack of a receiver of the desires is what causes the pain. I guess after a while, the pain becomes dull and somewhat missed. In the end, all they want to do is feel (good or bad).
I think I am WAY off on this... I just need rest... too early!

U are right. There may not be a difference between throwing your heart against a brick wall and wielding a razor blade.

Why do I find this disturbing? Is it that there being no difference, there is no difference in motivation?

interesting emotional/physical spectrum or ... bellcurve:

pain | pleasure | sadness

I'm not sure what I think of this. Friends will tell you this is quite normal for me.

Probably not... what is the difference in throwing your heart against a brick wall and wielding a razor blade?

giving little pieces of ourselves to another... having pieces taken by those we love... when does this mortal coil finally fall to the floor, displaced by infinite sadness? is that physical or emotional?

and there is always the duality of pleasure & pain and pain & sadness. Allowing us to cross the boundaries of "hurt"...

I don't know that there is an answer to this question, but what are the essential differences between imposing emotional hurt and physical hurt? Particularly on oneself.

Our culture has a taboo against physical pain, but not, I think, against emotional pain. Is the difference the visibility of the first and the invisibility of the latter?
